2012 Favorites

Hey!

I’ve compiled a post with all of my favorite books/authors/characters of 2012. Hope you enjoy!

Favorite 2012 Debuts:

Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard

There are many reasons I love this book 1. Daniel 2. Ms. Dennard is super awesome 3.Daniel 4. Steampunk and zombies, does it get any better? 5. Did I mention Daniel?

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

The best way to describe this book? Epic fantasy. It’s amazing, and will keep you captivated. It’s a refreshing change to the trending dystopian genre. Plus, it has a gorgeous cover and the author is super nice!

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

This book is like a combination of  The Hunger Games and Graceling. Yes, it was that good. If you liked Graceling, I highly recommend Throne of Glass. Even if you didn’t like Graceling, you should still read it.

False Memory by Dan Krokos

This book has a great science fiction flare to it, we which I really loved. It also had some incredible plot twists that I never saw coming.

Favorite New Series:

The Diviners by Libba Bray

Gosh, this is an amazing book. The Great Gatsby with a paranormal twist, how can you not read it? I cannot wait for book two!

Favorite Stand Alone:

Kissing Shakespeare by Pamela Mingle

I cannot express how much I wish this book wasn’t a stand alone. It’s such an amazing idea, and the ending is heartbreaking. After reading this I became very interested in the Shakespearean era.

Tiger Lily by Jodie Anderson

I think its pretty well know I love the story of Peter Pan, and this take on it was truly brilliant. I gave me a whole new perspective, and I will never read the classic story in quite the same way.

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Okay. Okay. (Just made a super awesome reference, in case you’re wondering.) This is an incredibly book. I tear up a little every time I think about it. It was a truly beautiful and touching novel.

Favorite Sequels:

The Evolution of Mara Dyer by amichelle Hodkin

Gah, this book was amazing.  It made me need to re-read Unbecoming immediately! It has some great twists, and the characters are amazing. You connect with them almost instantly. Noah and Mara are far from perfect, and that’s what makes them so intriguing.

Rise of Nine by Pittacus Lore

Dude, if you want a book of epic proportions, you need to read the I Am Number Four Series. At first, I was a little skeptical of it, but by the time Rise of Nine came out, I was a complete Lorien nerd.

Favorite Characters:

Susan Dennard’s Daniel Patrick Sheridan. I think I mentioned earlier I love him, but in case you didn’t catch on, I’m letting you know again.

Leigh Bardugo’s The Darkling. I seriously need to know the Darklings’ real name. He just so… awesome.

Leigh Bardugo’s Genya. I really loved Genya. She had such a great personality and an intriguing back story.

And last but not least… My favorite author of 2012 is:

Susan Dennard. She is incredibly nice, fun to work with and her book is amazing. I have been truly honored to be able to work with her, and I highly recommend you go check out her book. Get to it, people!

There you have it! I hope you enjoyed my favorites of 2012! It was surprisingly hard for me to decide which to feature… Let me know in the comments what some of YOUR favorite have been!

  4. Thanks! These are some really fantastic books, and there were many more I wanted to put on the list. But, if I put all the books I wanted on this list, it would be as long as a book… -Maddie
